    Nissan eyes increased exports from India

    Nissan has its sights focused on India right now. The act of God has put the auto major in a spot. The floods in Thailand have made a devastating effect on Nissan's plans. Nissan hugely depends on its Thailand manufacturing unit to carry out its exports to the other parts of the world. But, the plans have taken a back seat due to the recent natural calamity. Now, the Japanese car manufacturer hopes to shift the focus to India. How does India fit into the Nissan’s plans. The Japanese auto major goes hand in hand with Renault India to have a massive manufacturing plant set up at Chennai.

    Now, the auto major hopes to utilize the entire capacity to handle the exports to the other parts of Asia including the Middle-Eastern countries. As much as Rs 4,500 crores have been invested to have the production at full-swing at their Chennai manufacturing plant. Now, the plant stands at a point where it is capable of rolling out four lakh units per annum. This is the plant where Nissan Sunny and Nissan Micra have been moulded.  It is the same plant where Renault Pulse is in production at the moment.  The update has come straight from the horse’s mouth. Toshiyuki Shiga, the Chief operating officer of Nissan Motor Corp was generous enough to share the details at the Tokyo Motor Show.

    He has been singing praises of their dedicated manufacturing unit in India and their plans to export the small car Nissan Micra to Middle East. Looks like, Nissan too is keen to focus its attention on  India for future development. Out of their key Research and Development facilities in US, China and India, they find India to fall more in lines with their growth plans. Nissan has literally sweeped the show displaying four concept cars at the Tokyo Motor show yesterday. The electric cars still at the concept stage are showcased at the show including the hyped Nissan Leaf. The other two are Nissan Pivo3 and Townpod. Carrying the Juke name forward was the showstopper Nissan Juke Nismo concept SUV.
