Hyundai has showcased the Vision T concept at the 2019 LA Auto Show. The reason why this concept is so significant for us in India is that it will be the basis for the next-gen Tucson. It is the seventh concept from Hyundai’s Design Centre that expresses the Korean carmaker’s Sensuous Sportiness global design language.

Break out the measuring tape and you will find that the Vision T Concept measures 4610mm in length, 2014mm in width, 1704mm in height and has a 2804mm long wheelbase. Compared to the current Tucson, it is longer, wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase. Take a look for yourself at the table below to see the difference.

Looking at the difference in measurements, it is safe to say that the next-gen Tucson will definitely grow in size.

The design of the Vision T conforms to Hyundai’s latest Sensuous Sportiness global design language. It gets clean lines and a more sculpted from end. Compare that to the current Tucson and you’ll see a stark difference. Its design is curvy and largely devoid of any clear cut lines. The biggest difference one can spot here is the headlights. While the current version we get in India gets already sleek headlamps, the Vision T gets an even sleeker unit which extends downwards.

In profile, the shape of the two cars is quite similar. At the rear, the Vision T concept features huge muscular haunches which give it a wide appearance. In comparison, the Tucson we get here follows the same curvy formula at the back and doesn’t look as wide as the Vision T concept.

The Vision T also houses some cool features that are usually reserved for premium cars and supercars. It gets a Parametric Air Shutter, which is a fancy way of saying that the flaps on the front grille can move about individually. This aids in cooling the powertrain and increases the aerodynamic efficiency of the car.

The concept features a plug-in hybrid powertrain but Hyundai has not revealed any specs. The charging port is located on the rear quarter panel, mimicking the conventional fuel lid in internal combustion engine cars.

The new Tucson that will be based on it will be revealed sometime late in 2020. If you were wondering when it will come to India, there is no definitive answer to that.We are yet to receive the facelift for the current-gen model, which is available in global markets.
