The Countryman is available with an option of a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel. The Countryman JCW Inspired variant draws power from the same engine in the same state of tune as the regular Cooper S variant.

The second-gen Countryman is longer by 200mm and wider by 30mm than its previous iteration. It gets a large mesh front grille flanked by bug-eyed LED headlamps. The luggage capacity has increased by 30 per cent to 450 litres, which can be expanded by folding the seats to 1309 litres. Move to the sides and the SUV-ish traits are further evident in the bulging fenders which are filled by the chunky 19-inch wheels. Its chubby rear end gets thumb-shaped LED tail lights and twin exhausts.

The change in exterior dimensions has resulted in a 75mm rise in the wheelbase, which stands at 2669mm now, making this the most spacious Mini on sale. The dashboard layout is typical Mini, with a round 6.5-inch infotainment system (in Cooper S and Cooper SD) in the centre with Harman Kardon audio system and toggle switches for the two-zone climate control. The Cooper S JCW Inspired gets Wired Package instead, which includes the Mini Connected XL 8.8-inch infotainment system with MINI Navigation System.

While the petrol-powered Countryman Cooper S and diesel-powered Cooper SD are nearly identical as far as on-board equipment is concerned, the latter gets a sunroof and electric seat adjustment with memory function in addition. While both these variants get front and rear parking sensors, these do not get a rear parking camera, which is a part of the features list of the JCW Inspired.

The Countryman Cooper S JCW Inspired is equipped with JCW interior and exterior package which includes JCW Aerodynamic kit, rear spoiler, JCW Sport steering wheel, heads-up display, wireless phone charging, door sills, stainless steel pedal covers and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Mini Countryman competes against the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and the upcoming Volvo XC40.
