A bigger 52.9 kWh battery pack and new features in the Windsor EV’s array has made its competition with the Nexon EV interesting. We find out which is the better EV on paper

When the MG Windsor EV was launched back in September 2024 as a prime rival to the Nexon EV, all it lacked was a large battery pack and consequently, a better claimed range compared to the Tata competitor. MG, with the recent launch of the new Essence Pro variant, has tried to address this by offering a bigger battery pack that claims more driving range than before. On the other hand, the Nexon EV was also updated with the Curvv EV’s larger 45 kWh battery pack in September 2024. So, how do the top-spec variants of both rivals compare now? Let us take a detailed look.

As seen in the table, the price of the Windsor EV Pro is about Rs 50,000 more than the top-spec variant of the Tata Nexon EV. However, the Windsor EV is also available with a battery rental scheme that allows it to have a significantly lower price tag.

The MG Windsor EV is over 4 metres in length, and is hence a larger offering than the Tata rival in all regards. It is around 300 mm longer and is 48 mm wider and 52 mm taller, while having a larger wheelbase by more than 200 mm. While the larger wheelbase translates to more space at the rear, the added length also allows the MG competitor to have a 229 litre larger boot space than the Nexon EV.

Although the MG Windsor EV gets a larger battery pack than the Nexon EV, it has a 40 km lower claimed range. Its electric motor is also 8 PS and 15 Nm less powerful than the Tata rival.

Commonalities include all-LED lighting, dual-tone cabin theme, ventilated front seats, auto AC with rear vents, V2L, V2V, 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, TPMS and disc brakes on all wheels.
The Windsor EV Pro gets flush-type door handles, a powered tailgate, a 256-colour ambient lighting, a bigger 15.6-inch touchscreen, 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and an ADAS suite, all of which is not offered with the Nexon EV.
The Nexon EV, on the other hand, features a bigger 10.25-inch driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors and a rear wiper, which are not available on the MG rival.

Which EV To Buy?

Even though the MG Windsor EV Pro comes with a premium price tag than the Nexon EV, it is larger in every aspect that will make it more adept for longer road trips or larger families. The inclusion of a new 52.9 kWh battery pack has now made it comparable to the Nexon EV’s claimed range. Moreover, the feature suite gets a lot of likeable comfort and convenience features like a powered tailgate and a powered driver’s seat, and the safety net consists of an ADAS suite, all of which is missing on the Tata rival. So, if you want a value-for-money EV which is technologically advanced too, you can go with the MG Windsor EV Pro.

On the other hand, the Nexon EV has been one of the highest-selling EVs and it produces slightly more performance than the MG Windsor EV. Moreover, in our real-life tests, we found out that its electric motor has a sportier nature than the Windsor EV’s unit. So, if performance is your priority, and don’t really need a lavish second row experience as your usage will be limited, then you can opt for the Nexon EV.
