Mahindra Vision SXT Concept Revealed As The Electric Thar’s Pickup Version

The Vision SXT concept looks a bit inspired by the Thar E prototype, but adds a lot of character to itself by offering design elements like a boxy grille and pixel-like headlights

It is not unknown that the India-specific portfolio of Mahindra lacks any form of pickup offering. This might change in the coming years as Mahindra has showcased the Vision SXT pickup concept, which, by the looks of it, takes a lot of inspiration from the Thar E prototyperevealed in August 2023. However, the Vision SXT brings in a lot of new design elements to the mix and a flatbed at the rear.

Let us take a deep dive into the design details of the Mahindra Vision SXT concept to understand how the carmaker is imagining its cars to look like in the future.

Front Design

The Vision SXT concept gets pixel-shaped dual-projector headlights, beneath which are the turn indicators, all of which is arranged in a square housing. The bonnet also gets aggressive cuts and creases that make it look menacing.

It also gets a rectangular grille with a lot of square elements on it that although being finished in matte black, induces a lot of aggressiveness to the concept’s character.

Along with this, its go-anywhere character is highlighted by the chunky off-road specific front bumper that features a silver skid plate, all of which makes it look ready to take on the paths that are still undiscovered.

Side Design

Like the front, the side profile features aggressive creases all along its bodyline and angular body cladding on the wheel arches that also run on the lower portion of the doors.

Typical to the Thar nameplate, the Vision SXT gets pull-type handles on the front doors, while the rear handles are mounted on the C-pillar similar to what is seen on the Thar Roxx. There’s also a black strip that runs below the ORVMs on the front doors that give a nice contrast to the overall paint theme of the concept model.

Other visible elements include roof rails, camera-based outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) and off-road specific chunky tyres.

Rear Design

The rear design of the pickup concept is also radical like the Vision SXT’s other profiles. The major highlight here are the two off-road spec wheels on the flatbed that make it look ready to go anywhere.

It also gets slim rectangular-shaped LED tail lights that are connected via a thin matte black metal strip that has the ‘Vision.SXT’ badge for easier identification of the model. The rear bumper is chunky and features a silver skid plate like the front bumper. Its high-mounted stop lights are placed on the roof-mounted spoiler.

Interior

While the exterior looks menacing, the interior looks funky and opulent. Mahindra has gone for a black and orange colour scheme, which gives it a cool look. There is a chunky steering wheel with bold “Vision.SXT” badge on the steering wheel. The highlight here is the massive vertically oriented touchscreen, right below which there are physical toggles for important functions. Even the driver gets his own digital driver’s display.

Other Details

That being said, it is still uncertain whether the production-spec version of the Vision SXT prototype will be an ICE or EV offering in India. Considering it will be based on the NFA platform which will support ICE, hybrid and electric models, it won’t be wrong to expect that the production-spec Vision SXT model can come with multiple powertrain options.

Is It Going Into Production?

Notably, the Vision SXT is expected to go into production sometime in 2028. It will be above four metres in length and is expected to rival compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
