Honda’s offerings were the least popular models in the segment

The premium hatchback segment enjoyed an overall month-on-month growth of over 17 per cent as all models enjoyed more sales in September as compared to August 2019. The Maruti Baleno is still the most popular offering while the Hyundai Elite i20 saw the biggest month-on-month growth to make it into five figure sales.

Takeaways

Honda Jazz: The Jazz was the least popular premium hatchback last month with less than 650 units shipped in September. That said, it’s sales figure still translates to a 16 per cent increase in month-on-month. Honda’s offering has also lost some of its market share in the year-on-year comparison.

Hyundai Elite i20: The Elite i20 has made a major comeback as compared to August sales with a 43.41 per cent increase in MoM figures. Over 10,000 units were shipped, making it the second most popular offering in the segment in September with a 36 per cent market share.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno: Maruti’s premium hatch enjoyed the highest demand in September 2019 with 11,420 units shipped, which is a three per cent MoM increase. It’s year-on-year market share, however, has dropped by over nine per cent.

VW Polo Gets Another Facelift, Prices Begin At Rs 5.82 Lakh

Volkswagen Polo: The Polo still seems to be enjoying decent demand and was the fourth most popular premium hatchback in September 2019. Its MoM figures grew by four per cent and its market share continues to be between five and six per cent.

Honda WR-V: The WR-V crossover is actually more in demand than the car that it is based on with a MoM increase in sales of just under 14 per cent. It is the second-least popular offering in its segment.

Toyota Glanza: The Baleno-based Glanza was the third most popular premium hatchback with over 2,700 units being shipped in September. It enjoyed a MoM growth of 17.7 per cent and currently holds 9.78 per cent of the market share.
