Toyota might be featuring the second generation of Fortuner at the 2016 Auto Expo. For a long time now, it has enjoyed majority share of the premium SUV space with Fortuner. It faced little competition from Santa Fe, Captiva, Pajero, CR V and Ssangyong Rexton. Although, the segment was crowded but, no other SUV came close to the popularity of Fortuner. It has a masculine appeal which created a strong road presence. Even with the criticism faced by the interiors of this cars, Fortuner ruled the segment. The last update of Toyota Fortuner was on January 06, 2015 and since then, the competition has increased from Santa-Fe and new competitors like Trailblazer.

So, Toyota is prepared to again become the undisputed king of the premium SUVs with its second-gen Fortuner. Like the new age Santa Fe and Endeavour, the 2nd Gen Fortuner also gets more aggressive in the styling front. This new look is dominated by the front grille, especially the 2 chrome slats which come down horizontally after overlining the sweptback headlamps. Further adding to character are the big foglamp enclosures which are highlighted with bold chrome accents. The sleek headlamp cluster in this muscular face gives the car a mean look.

Side profile displays a much sleeker c-pillar design. This allows for the raised rear window which is underlined in chrome, which adds to the muscle. Rear of the car has an all new set of taillight clusters which align neatly over a chrome slat featuring the Fortuner badge. The stepney is still located below the third row, outside the car. This Toyota Fortuner is launched in Australia for 47,990 Australian Dollars, which roughly accounts to Rs 22 lac.

Though the car is popular for its massive body and road presence, some people actually buy Fortuner for the reliability of its mechanics. The car was launched in Australia on October 21, 2015. This second generation Fortuner was available only with the new 2.8-litre diesel engine. The turbodiesel, four cylinder, direct-injected mill churns out 174.3 bhp and peak torque of 450 Nm and comes mated to a 6-Speed automatic transmission. The torque figure becomes 420 Nm when mated to a 6-Speed manual. In India, a 2.4-litre motor is also expected to arrive and power the beast.
