Tata Motors announced on Friday, the hike in Tata Nano price by Rs 6,000. This has been done due to the increased input costs. But the carmaker also said that it will retain the rate which has been promised to the first 1 lakh customers of this low-cost small car.

Nano’s delivery began in July last year and since then Tata Motors has sold over around 45,000 Nanos. The company has also got plans for delivering the cars to their remaining customers. These are the customers who got selected through a lottery last year.

The company has started intimating the rise in price to its customers. In a statement TM said that  despite a sudden increase in input prices, Nano’s price has been increased by only 3-4%. The company has also promised to reward customers for bearing any delay in delivery because of the capacity constraints.

Tata Motors has called the price rise fairly nominal. Earlier Marukti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India had raised prices for around four times in a year keeping the increased input costs in mind.
