Tata regrets the fall-out of Nano project in Singure
Tata group, one of the oldest industrial group, seems to be regretting the political agitation faced in the year 2008 at Singur due to which the company had to shift its Nano project to Sanand in Gujarat. The group's Chairman, Mr Ratan Tata said on Monday that he regrets that Tata Motors could not do the Nano car project which was scheduled for West Bengal. However, he also said that West Bengal would always be a part of the group's corporate identity. He was speaking at the annual general meeting of the company.
Mr Tata added that the group is dedicated to the cancer hospital that is coming up which is expected to be inaugurated by this year end. The cancer hospital is currently under construction at Rajarhat near the city.
It is to be mentioned here Tata Motors had to shift one of its most ambitious Tata Nano car project to Sanand in Gujarat due to a series of political agitations by the opposition party Trinamool Congress. The major demand of the party was the return of as much as 400 acres of land that was acquired by the farmers for the project.
The company had inaugurated its yet another car plant at Sanand in the first week of June 2010. The mother plant of India's cheapest car will be eventually have a total workforce of 10,000 employees. The new plant of Tata Nano has enabled the company to produce as many as 700 Nano cars in a single day. The company has already said that the Tata Nano model will be available off the shelf from September this year which means that the car could be directly purchased from Tata Showrooms from next month. Tata Nano is currently available in the price range of Rs 1,15,361 - Rs 1,79,254 (Delhi ex-showroom price).
