Tata Nano to be bought directly from showrooms

Finally, the customers will be able to buy Tata Nano directly from showrooms. The company has decided to end the booking system for Nano, the cheapest car of the world. This option has been provided in few states. Tata Motors has opened sales of Nano in West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Now in these states, instead of booking the car, it would be possible for the customers to buy Nano directly from dealers.

In these states, those customers who have not booked a Nano till now can purchase the Nano directly from showrooms, said the company in a statement. Tata Motors had initially decided to sell the car through booking when the model was introduced in March 2009. In fact, the company was expecting a great demand for this model and was aware of the confined production capacity at Pantnagar in Himachal Pradesh.

Tata Motors was compelled to shift the mother plant of Nano from Singur in West Bengal to Sanand in Gujarat because of the agitations upon a land row. The Gujarat plant began a commercial production in June. This helped the company in speeding up its delivery for Tata Nano. The open sales of Tata Nano were started by the company in Kerala in the month of August. Tata Motors has also tied up with twenty five banks for offering loans for the purchase of Nano. These banks include HDFC Bank , Canara Bank, ICICI Bank etc.

In the previous year, Tata Motors had chosen 1.55 lakh customers for delivering Tata Nano in 2 phases. The company is in the procedure of delivering the model to the first 1 lakh customers. This task will be done till the end of 2010.
