The introduction of Tata Nano was compared to that of the Ford Model T, the car that completely revolutionized the automobile industry. Tata Nano is also expected to create a new distinct category in the auto industry - the People's Car.

It may be recalled that before Tata Nano, Maruti 800 was the people's car at around Rs 2 lakh.
