The Maruti Palette kei car (small car category in Japan) runs on a 658 cc, three pot engine generating 54 Bhp of power and 64 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a four speed automatic gearbox. This seems to be up-market and supplementing this is the mileage figure that goes beyond 22 Kmpl, as claimed by Suzuki under Japanese conditions. Seeing the engine capacity, initially it was reckoned that the kei car is Nano’s rival. However, Maruti Suzuki Chairman has elucidated that the new car will not hit the production stage directed for their sales in the Indian market. The company will judge the public response towards the car and formulate their future strategy accordingly.

At the massive event of Auto Expo in New Delhi in January 2012, Maruti Suzuki will display a glut of vehicles, which will include Maruti Suzuki Palette, powered with a sub-800 cc petrol engine. This is a small car that falls in the category of Kei segment of cars, which is pretty prominent in the Japanese car market. Maruti Suzuki Palette will be revealed along with its sister, Maruti Suzuki MR Wagon.
The yet to be showcased Maruti Suzuki Palette will bring up a stimulating alteration from the traditional cars that are offered by Maruti Suzuki in India. Maruti Suzuki Palette has eccentric looks, brilliant fuel economy and spacious interiors, which would be helpful in cajoling the audience significantly. The engine that is installed in this small car is well received in Japanese car market. However, Maruti Suzuki is not planning to launch the car straight away, first the unveiling will be done at the Auto Expo 2012 and depending on the responses, and the launch will be planned, if at all it will be approved for India.
Talking about the engine, Maruti Suzuki Palette will come with a small 658 cc petrol engine under the hood. So, a Nano Killer all way? Well, the firm denies this statement. This so called small engine has a great caliber and could churn out 54 BHP of power along with 63 Nm of torque. The turbocharger variant of the engine will produce 64 BHP of power, but it may or may not be launched in the country. Believe it or not, Maruti Suzuki Palette is expected to render a brilliant mileage of 22.5 km per litre as per Japanese conditions, which is captivating. Adding on to the performance area, the car sports power steering apparatus that will help the driver to glide smoothly through traffic regions, whereas the rear drum and front disk brakes will provide the driver complete control. The engine will be wisely coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox, although an automatic version is present in Japan which will aid the driver to shift gears smoothly and swiftly.
Look wise, Maruti Suzuki Palette is a huge looking car. However, all the hype about the car goes dull when someone just glares at it. The exteriors of Maruti Suzuki Palette are doomed with a van like appearance. The front elevation of the car seems a bit chirpy with the headlamps slantly placed along with the Suzuki logo and traditional grille. When launched in India, the car might also come with alloy wheels.
The interiors of Maruti Suzuki Palette are spacious and comfortable. The car is incorporated with remote central locking, power windows, rake type steering adjustment, fuel filler and fuel boot. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki Palette will also feature a high conformity music system that will make long drives more fun. The suitably placed steering mounted controls along with electric door mirrors on both the sides, leather seats and folding rear seats will make Maruti Suzuki Palette perfect in every sense.
For passengers’ safety, Maruti Suzuki Palette will be providing urbane and refined safety arrangements, which would comprise of fog lamps, dual passenger airbags, rear seatbelts and ABS (Anti lock braking system) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution). If in case, Maruti Suzuki does launch Maruti Suzuki Palette in India, then the price of the car could land between the price range of Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.
