Volvo cars are known for being the safest cars in the world and their leadership in car safety has once again been underlined by the IIHS- Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Volvo S60 has been awarded with the best ratings in the IIHS’s new small offset frontal crash test.

Last year nearly 5 models from the Volvo line up, namely; C30, S60, S80, XC60 and XC90, earned the Top Safety Pick as well. In the year 2011, in the IIHS report, Volvo became the only European brand that had five awarded models. The XC60 also received 5 stars in all individual crash tests, including 5 stars for driver and for passenger in the frontal collision and also in both side tests.

In the particular test, 25% of the front of the car on the driver’s side strikes a rigid barrier at 64kmph. The test is designed such that it creates the replication of the scenario that takes place when the front corner of a car collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree etc.

Senior Safety Advisor at Volvo Car Corporation, Thomas Broberg said that this test confirms that the safety system of Volvo work as expected even when a small part of the front end of the car is involved in the collision. He further added that Volvo Cars try to build cars that help keep the passengers safe in crash situations. Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, also added that this latest test results show and testify the unmatched safety features in the real-life crash situations.
