It is expected to debut in the Indian market by 2020

  • While the next-gen Grand i10 is expected later this year, new Xcent is likely debut at 2020 Auto Expo
  • Both next-gen Grand i10 and Xcent are likely to share similar looking front fascia as before
  • Likely to be powered by the BS6 iterations of the current set of 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines.
  • Expected to be more feature rich, including connected tech with embedded eSIM like Venue
  • Prices are expected to go up thanks to new emission and safety norms

The second-gen Hyundai Xcent has recently been spotted testing fort the first time. Although the sub-4m sedan was heavily camouflaged, it gave us a fair idea of how the new-gen sedan will look.

Upfront, the new Xcent looks similar to the next-gen i20 and the new Sonata. It gets an updated iteration of Hyundai’s cascading grille with honeycomb finish. The new bumper features triangular housing for fog lamps, which appears to be projector units. The headlamps on the new Xcent look largely similar to the units seen on the current model. However, it might get projector units this time around. At the back, the 2020 Xcent features new tail lamps with LED inserts and also the number plate has now been moved to the bumper.

The spy shots do not reveal anything about the interior of the next-gen Xcent, however, it is likely to look similar to those of the new Grand i10, which is expected to debut by the end of this year. Expect it to feature floating touchscreen infotainment system and a new steering wheel, similar to the Venue.

Under the hood, the Xcent is likely to carry forward the same set of 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines, although in the BS6 avatar. The current 1.2-litre petrol engine makes 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is good for 75PS and 190Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed MT but the petrol engine gets a 4-speed AT as well. In the new sedan, this 4-speed automatic transmission is expected to be replaced by an AMT unit. A diesel AMT could also be offered.

The second-gen Xcent is expected to debut in 2020, probably at the Auto Expo. Once launched, it will renew rivalry against the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and the Tata Tigor. The new Xcent is likely to be more expensive than the current sedan thanks to the BS6 engines and new features. Prices of the current Xcent start from Rs 5.72 lakh to Rs 8.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
