The Cybertruck is a multi-functional utility truck with a payload capacity of 1,588kg

  • The Tesla Cybertruck is an all-electric utility truck.
  • Tesla started accepting pre-orders for the Cybertruck at $100 (Rs 7,000 approx).
  • It will be offered with three powertrain options: single-motor RWD, dual-motor AWD and tri-motor AWD.
  • The top-spec model has a claimed range of over 800km.
  • Tesla will begin production of the Cybertruck in late 2021.
  • The American electric carmaker plans to come to India soon.

Tesla’s portfolio consists of all-electric models including the Model X. To add to the existing lineup, it recently introduced the Cybertruck -- an all-electric utility pick-up that Tesla claims is dent-proof.

Now, the American brand has revealed that it has already received over 2 lakh pre-orders for the Cybertruck within a week of its unveil. Tesla started accepting pre-orders for the all-electric utility truck at $100 (Rs 7,000 approx) with the pre-configured variants priced from $40,000 to $70,000, which nearly equals Rs 28 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

The electrified version of its utility truck will be offered with three powertrain options: single-motor RWD, dual-motor AWD and tri-motor AWD. While the entry-spec model has a claimed range of over 400km, the top-spec Cybertruck can go over 800km. The single-motor Cybertruck takes less than 6.5 seconds to reach 0-96kmph, whereas the same sprint in the top-spec model can be completed in less than 2.9 seconds.

An interesting aspect in its interior is that being electric it does not get a transmission tunnel thereby providing a middle seat in the front row so as to seat six occupants. Tesla will also be offering a 17-inch touchscreen display with customised user interface onboard the Cybertruck.

As far as features are concerned, the Cybertruck will be offered with air suspension as standard, hence allowing it to raise and lower itself as and when needed. What’s interesting is that it has a maximum ground clearance of over 400mm at its highest setting. The Cybertruck will also come with the semi-autonomous Tesla Autopilot system as standard.

The truck’s production is expected to begin in late 2021 while the top-spec Tri-motor will enter production in 2022. Even though Tesla is expected to come to India soon, we don’t expect the Cybertruck to be a part of its initial lineup.
