If there is a chance to do something innovative in terms of electric mobility, Tesla is probably working to do it first. The brand’s latest creation is an all-electric utility truck called the Cybertruck.

It looks like something from a sci-fi movie with its angular and boxy shapes. Its body is built using Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel. The Cybertruck’s cabin can seat six since the deletion of a transmission tunnel allows for a middle seat in the front row.

The rear vault stretches upto 6.5 feet in length with a payload capacity of 1,588kg and it can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used without the cover to ferry items like a quad-bike wherein the rear decklid can act as a ramp. If used with the cover, it works as a lockable storage. It can even be used as a tent’s support structure while camping.

Tesla has announced three powertrain options for the Cybertruck: single-motor RWD, dual-motor AWD and tri-motor AWD. The claimed range of the entry-spec model is over 400km while the 0-96kph sprint takes less than 6.5 seconds. In the top-spec, the Cybertruck has a claimed electric range of over 800km while the acceleration time drops below 2.9 seconds.

In terms of features, Tesla will offer the Cybertuck with air suspension as standard, which would allow it to raise and lower itself as needed. At its highest, the Cybertruck has a max ground clearance of over 400mm. It also gets the semi-autonomous Tesla Autopilot system as standard while the central console now uses a 17-inch touchscreen display.

Tesla is accepting pre-orders for the Cybertruck at $100 (Rs 7,000 approx) with the pre-configured variants priced from $40,000 to $70,000, which is equivalent to Rs 28.7 lakh to Rs 50.23 lakh. The truck’s production is slated to begin in late 2021 while the top-spec Tri-motor will enter production in 2022. Tesla plans to arrive in India soon, but the Cybertruck is not expected to be in the initial lineup.
