Tata Motors to launch a Premium Sedan in India

Tata Motors is planning to make its entry into the premium sedan category which is presently dominated by the Honda, Audi and Skoda. This plan comes 2 years after the acquiring the iconic Jaguar Land Rover brand, the British carmaker. The expected sedan will be the most expensive product from the company’s product line. This proposed sedan of Tata Motors will be developed with the help and cooperation of the engineers of JLR (Jaguar Land Rover).

The spokesperson of Tata Motors said that the company had acquired Jaguar Land Rover for not only to take over their sales but also, the technology of JLR was useful for Tata Motors to leverage it and make its entry into the segment of premium sedans. One of the sources also added that Tata Motors wants to make its presence in all the product segments. The company is following the strategy that includes a product range from Tata Nano to premium sedan, said the source

The company had introduced Tata Aria last month. The new Aria has been promoted as a cross between a sedan and an SUV. At present, Tata Aria is the most expensive car from the portfolio of Tata Motors. Roughly, the new Tata Aria is priced at Rs 15.5 lakh. As per the sources, Tata Motors has got all the necessary means for entering into the category of premium sedans. The step of entering in this category can be looked upon in the reference of a totally new branding strategy from Tata Motors, added the source. 

The source further said that the sedan category is the one where more products can be seen from Tata Motors. At present, the company has began the fundamental task on the development of a new platform. This new platform will roll out a refreshed Tata Indigo which will be further followed by the other sedan. One of the company’s spokesperson said that Tata Motors does not provide guidance for its product plans. According to an auto analyst, the Rs 18-22 lakh category has been progressing each month and Tata Motors can use its network for making a foothold in this category.
