Nissan mulls local tie-ups to strengthen grip in India

Nissan has taken an aggressive stand where its growth in India is concerned. A piece of inside information from Nissan tells us that the Japanese car manufacturer is weighing a few options to improve its presence in India. Partnerships with domestic automobile manufacturers seem to be more likely to develop cost efficient cars for India. This will help the auto major in placing a much competitive price for its proposed low cost models. Nissan venturing into partnerships with domestic car manufacturers is not something new.

The car manufacturer has two business partners in the country so far. A deal between Nissan and leading commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland is already through for developing SUVs for the Indian car market. The auto major is just short of launching the Nissan NV200 SUV in 2012. Apart from this, the auto major apparently has another SUV launch in the pipeline. SUVs on one hand, Nissan has been hoping to launch small budget cars specifically for India . The ace two-wheeler manufacturer in the country, Bajaj Auto is a long term partner of Nissan for three years. An ultra-low cost car is on the cards from the joint partnership of Nissan and Bajaj Auto.

However, the auto major hasn’t revealed much details on the subject which are yet under discussions. From the looks of it, Nissan India has high plans in store for future after its debut with Nissan Micra hatchback followed by Nissan Sunny sedan launch in India. A auto major might soon launch the Nissan Sunny diesel observing the high demand for diesel cars in India. This is about the Nissan’s partnership with domestic car manufacturers. Nissan’s stance with the French car manufacturer Renault is also considered to be a success. The Renault has developed its small car Renault Pulse based on the Nissan Micra’s V-platform.
