New entry level Mercedes-Benz GLA patent images leaked
A couple of months back, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the GLA crossover at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, which is expected to hit the Indian shores by the 2014-15. In the European nations, the company will start delivering the crossover in the first quarter next year. It was announced that the GLA will be made available in three engine options - two petrol and one diesel. It has been priced at 32,130 EUR (around Rs. 27 lakh) for the entry level diesel model. However, reports are coming that the company will also introduce a new entry level GLA 200 CDI model, which is expected to be priced under 32,000 EUR.
According to Automobile Magazine, Mercedes-Benz aims to generate the maximum sales from the entry level GLA 180 CDI model. The patent images of the new base model of the GLA has also been leaked on the web, giving us some valuable details. Surprisingly, the vehicle will be powered by the Renault's 1.5-litre dCi engine that also does duty to the Duster, Terrano, Micra etc. The engine will be tuned to offer 109bhp of top power and around 25kmpl of fuel economy. It is also said that this model will be introduced by the end of first quarter 2014. Moreover, it will also miss out on various high-end features.
Mercedes GLA crossover will also make its way to India, and will compete against the likes of Audi Q3 and BMW X1. With the price war strategy is getting furious in the Indian car market, and three German luxury carmaker Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are introducing price effective products to gain more market. We can expect the entry level GLA could also make its way to India. Audi Q3 S is the one latest example of this strategy, which has helped the company to register a massive growth in the market. However, it is quite early to comment whether it will come to India or not.
