There is a possibility that Maruti will go ahead and incorporate the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine which is currently powering its range of hatchbacks, in the Vitara Brezza. During the recently culminated 2016 Indian Auto Expo, the automaker also showcased a 1-litre 3 cylinder Turbo charged BoosterJet petrol unit, which was powering the Baleno RS hot hatchback concept. This supped-up powerplant is capable of producing 110 PS of power output and 170 Nm of peak torque and poses as a suitable candidate to power Vitara Brezza.

Incorporation of a petrol power plant will also help Maruti capitalise on the sub 4-metre excise duty benefits provided by the Indian government. When launched Vitara Brezza will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport and TUV300. Vitara Brezza will be sold out of Maruti’s standard dealerships and not the premium Nexa outlets.
