The Carens Clavis EV has minimal differences in design compared to its ICE counterpart, except for a few EV-specific tweaks
The Kia Carens Clavis EV is set to launch on July 15, while its ICE-powered counterpart has been on sale since May 23. Ahead of its launch, Kia teased the Carens Clavis EV, which shows a few design bits of the upcoming electric MPV. While its overall design remains largely the same, the EV iteration gets a few styling updates. In this report, we’ve compared both versions of the Carens Clavis to highlight the key design similarities and differences.
Front

Both the Carens Clavis EV and its ICE version carry almost the same design. Upfront, they get the same triangular housing for the 3-pod LED headlamps with angular LED DRLs and pixel-style fog lamps. Both iterations of the Carens Clavis also get a blanked-off grille. However, in the EV, the grille houses an integrated charging flap.
Side

Like the fascia, the silhouette of the Carens Clavis EV is unchanged as well. Both models have similar elements like pull-type door handles, black cladding with silver inserts on wheel arches and lower section of doors, roof rails and body coloured outside rearview mirror(ORVM). However, the EV gets new aerodynamically designed alloy wheels that should enhance efficiency.
Rear

While the teaser did not clearly show the rear section design of the EV, it should get subtle badging differences, with a similar connected LED tail light design.
The petrol and diesel models of the Carens Clavis come with a total of eight colour options. The Clavis EV might bring some changes to its palette, possibly with a new hue.
Interior

Step inside, and both versions follow the same layout and 7-seater configuration. The EV, however, gets a fresh black and white dual-tone theme that makes the cabin look more plush compared to the Navy and Beige theme in the ICE version. This black and white theme is similar to what is seen in the lower variants of the combustion-powered model.
The Kia Carens Clavis EV also features a revised centre console. In the absence of a traditional gear lever, it gets an additional storage space with a sliding tray. Most features are likely to be shared, but the EV might get a couple of exclusive additions to its suite.
Expected Features

The Carens Clavis EV is expected to come well-equipped, carrying over most of the features from its ICE counterpart. These include dual 12.3-inch displays, one for infotainment and the other for the digital driver’s cluster, along with a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, and automatic climate control. It may also offer additional features like powered front seats and vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging.
In terms of safety, the EV is likely to include six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, front and rear parking sensors, disc brakes on all four wheels, and a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite.
Kia has confirmed through the teaser that the Carens Clavis EV will offer a MIDC-certified range of 490 km (Part 1 and Part 2), with a 51.4 kWh battery pack. However, the complete specifications are yet to be officially revealed.
Expected Price & Rivals
The prices of the Kia Carens Clavis EV will be announced on July 15, which we reckon could start from around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). The Clavis EV will be the carmaker’s first-ever mass-market EV, and at its price point, it doesn’t have any direct competitors.
However, it can be considered as an alternative to the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
