The Carens Clavis EV sports the same design as its ICE version, except for EV-specific tweaks, a new alloy design and a new interior theme

The Kia Carens Clavis is set to be launched on July 15, and before that, the Korean carmaker has dropped a teaser video, giving us a glimpse at its design. The premium electric MPV looks similar to its ICE counterpart, with modest updates such as new alloy wheels and a refreshed cabin theme. Let’s take a closer look at the Carens Clavis EV’s design.

    Front

Up front, the Carens Clavis EV sports 3-pod headlights housed within triangular enclosures just like its ICE version. The angular DRLs connected by a light bar also remain the same. The grille is closed off, as expected for an EV, and integrates a charging port. The front bumper carries a faux silver skid plate in between, which features pixel-style fog lamps that give it a futuristic look.

    Side

The side profile of the Carens Clavis EV looks clean with newly designed alloy wheels, likely 17-inch units from the petrol and diesel models. The pull-type door handles, roof rails and body-coloured outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs), along with the black cladding continuing over the wheel arches and having silver inserts, remain familiar. There is a black insert near the D-pillar that creates a floating roof effect.

    Rear

The rear portion of the Carens Clavis EV was briefly shown in the teaser, and not much change could be spotted at the back either. It gets connected LED tail lights and a rugged-looking bumper with chrome accents that add to its bling.

    Interior

The interior of the Carens Clavis EV gets a fresh black and white colour scheme, unlike the Navy Blue and Beige theme found in the ICE version. However, it sticks to the same dashboard layout with a dual display setup and the two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel.

It has been shown with a 7-seater configuration as yet, and it is likely to get a 6-seater option too, which hasn’t been confirmed now. The Carens Clavis EV has a redesigned centre console with a sliding tray instead of the gear selector that could be used for extra storage. Besides, the cabin will also have ambient lighting for a premium feel.

    Expected Features & Powertrain

The Carens Clavis EV is also expected to be feature-rich, carrying most of the features from its ICE sibling, including dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and auto AC. It can also have some additions like powered front seats and EV-specific equipment like V2L charging.

On the safety side, the Carens Clavis EV is expected to offer six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, blind spot monitor, front and rear parking sensors, disc brakes on all four wheels, and a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

Kia has shared in the teaser that the Carens Clavis EV will have a MIDC (part 1 + part 2) claimed range of 490 km, which is applicable for a 51.4 kWh battery pack that it carries. The detailed specifications are yet to be revealed.

    Expected Price & Rivals

The Kia Carens Clavis could be priced from around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). Although it won’t have a direct competitor, it is expected to be an electric alternative to the ICE MPVs as well as an alternative to compact electric SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
