Could turn out to be Jeep’s entry-level offering in the country!

Off lately, Jeep has been testing their entry level offering Renegade in the country, though, reasons are still unknown! Before its official debut, which was earlier this month at the 2016 Auto Expo, the American automaker started testing Renegade in the country. As of now, Jeep India has announced that they will launch Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and Wrangler Unlimited in coming months. There was no mention of this global entry level model - Renegade for India. However, it is expected that Jeep might launch it in India since the segment it falls under - compact crossover/SUVs, is growing rampantly. Rivals may include top variants of Hyundai Creta or the upcoming Tucson along with Mahindra XUV500 and others.

Speaking of launch possibilities, Jeep may launch it later this year of early 2017. Bringing it as a CBU (Complete Built Up) will not work when one glances over at its segment, as the prices will shoot up. If Jeep plans to launch it, probably it will have to go the CKD (Complete Knock Down) way. Prices are expected to start in the vicinity of Rs.15 lacs, possibilities are there that it will go above Rs. 15 lacs, as Jeep is relatively a premium brand.

Coming to its engine options, globally it comes with a lot of Fiat borrowed powertrains. For the uninitiated, Jeep comes under the Fiat-Chrysler umbrella. For India, it might get its engine options similar to that of the UK. Diesel would be the 1.6-litre Multijet (S-Cross offers this engine) mated to a 6-Speed manual gearbox, while petrol trims are expected to get the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol. Higher variants might also offer the 4WD along with 9-Speed automatic like its global avatar.
