Is Mahindra S101 launching around 3rd Week of January 2016?
If industry reports are to be believed Mahindra will be launching the vehicle code-named as S101 in the third week of January 2016. This vehicle is yet to get an official name while rumor suggests that it will be named on similar lines as XUV5OO and TUV3OO. It will compete with vehicles like Celerio, i10, upcoming Tata Kite aka Zica, Chevrolet Beat along with others.
The vehicle will also debut Mahindra's new family of petrol engines co-developed with Ssangyong!
The highlight of the S101 will be the new petrol unit, which is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder unit co-developed with Ssangyong. The engine is expected to generate 80+ bhp and close to 110 Nm of torque. Apart from the 1.2-liter petrol, S101 is also expected to feature Mahindra’s new mHawk80 diesel engine that debuted recently in the TUV3OO. The motor chucks out 83.6 bhp and a colossal 230 Nm of torque considering the segment it will be the part of. Instead, the automaker may detune this engine. With respect to transmission options, it would include a standard 5-speed manual along with the AMT transmission from the TUV3OO on both diesel and petrol engine options. It will be the second monocoque construction after the XUV5OO.
The spied interior shots of the S101 reveal that the vehicle will have a 5+1 seating option. The front middle row seat can be folded to be used an armrest and will also feature cup holders. It will also borrow features from the recently launched TUV300, like the infotainment system.
