Modified On Feb 09, 2016 07:27 PM By Raunak

A lot of credit for this should be given to Toyota Camry for starting and making it popular thus compelling others to follow it!

Volkswagen Passat GTE

Of lately, the gap between the prices of D2 and the entry-level luxury sedans has sunk and will sink further in the near future. Guess what, Toyota has figured a way out, by offering a fuel-efficient hybrid variant. As rest of stuff has already been taken care by sedans, most importantly back seat comfort - the hybrid powertrain provides top-of-the-line power! Plenty of upcoming D2 sedans will join Camry in the hybrid spree, soon.

To begin with, Honda will re-launch Accord in the country and it will feature a hybrid avatar option. The show car at the 2016 Auto Expo was the facelifted 9th generation Accord that is to be launched in the country, sometime this year. However, the hybrid version has not received this facelift internationally, but is expected to get similar updates while carrying forward the powertrain. Power comes from a 2.0-litre unit coupled to an electric motor. The combined output is 196 horses and the hybrid system is coupled to an E-CVT automatic transmission.

Speaking of the re-entry of Sonata. Hyundai showcased plug-in hybrid version of the latest gen Sonata at the Expo. The car is expected to be launched later this year or early next year and is also most likely to get hybrid powertrain in the country. Sonata hybrid is powered by a 2.0 litre GDI 4-cylinder gasoline engine, in conjunction with an electric motor. The combination delivers 202 HP @ 6000 rpm of max power and is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

VW Passat GTE

Speaking of the Germans, though VW showcased the plug-in hybrid version of the new Passat, it is expected to come without any of the hybrid tech and same is the case with the upcoming Superb. Both the vehicles are expected to be launched this year. Moreover, Skoda didn't even attend the auto expo.
