Reversing the common trend of hatchbacks being made into sedans, Honda is working on an all-new hatchback version of the City sedan. Images of the same were leaked on a Chinese auto portal. The Honda City is sold by the name of the Honda Griez in China and the hatchback is being called the Honda Gienia. The cars are based on the Honda City platform. The hatchback is a production version of the Honda Concept B, which was showcased at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

With a large bold wing face and boomerang taillamps, this production version stays close to the concept. The masculine black grille features a big Honda insignia and the airdam has a chrome outline. The headlamps have projector units similar to the ones seen in the City. The side also resembles the City, but the rear is all new.The boomerang tail lamps are connected by a bold red stripe running along the bootgate. The bumper remains true to the concept and looks muscular with wide creases. The production car even gets a boot hanging spoiler like the one on the concept.

Speaking of the engine, the hatchback is expected to get a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an optional CVT transmission. This car is expected to be launched in China sometime soon, but it is unclear that Honda will introduce it in India as well. In India, Honda has the Jazz as the premium hatchback and it is unlikely they introduce a hatchback in the same segment,
