Chevrolet recalls new Captiva for overheating steering fluid

Here's another piece of bad news which surfaced just weeks short of the 2012 Auto Expo. While GM India is gearing up to come up with its 2012 Chevrolet Captiva, the recent news has stopped the car manufacturer in the middle of its tracks. There is apparently something wrong with the fluid carried inside the steering wheel that is the cause of the entire problem. While the car is on the first gear (good that it only affects the manual transmission variants), the steering fluid is getting overheated to a level where it could pose a threat of catching fire.

This was found in the 2011 and 2012 models of Chevrolet Captiva and 15,627 is the number the car manufacturer came up with to bear the faulty manipulations. Chevrolet Captiva is one of the best-selling cars from GM India where the sales volume speaks of its success in the country. However, one has to say GM India is lucky on this one point. The production error emerged at a time where the new Chevrolet Captiva is not yet out on sales in India. What more, the car manufacturer is also toying with the idea of assembling the SUV locally going forward.

Had it been anytime later GM India would have been the scapegoat for this enormous blunder that too from the auto giant like General Motors. However, one slight mistake on the auto giant's part is not likely to spoil the tremendous image it has built for itself. It is just a minor dent in the path for success it has lined-up for next year. The car manufaxturer is just on the brink of launching 5 new cars models into the Indian car market next year. On a broader prospective, GM could be involved in a deal with BMW for developing clean and green highly fuel efficient engines with a new hydrogen cell technology jointly.
