5 Things We Learnt After Driving The 2025 MG Windsor EV Pro

The larger battery pack makes the Windsor EV Pro more apt for long intercity runs, while the feature additions are an added bonus

The MG Windsor EV Pro went on sale recently with a bigger 52.9 kWh battery pack as well as few new features including a level-2 ADAS and a powered tailgate. We recently got our hands on the new Essence Pro variant of the Windsor EV and after spending a considerable amount of time with it, here’s what we found after our drive.

More Claimed Range And Faster Charging Capabilities

The MG Windsor EV Pro comes with a bigger 52.9 kWh battery pack that has a higher claimed range. Here’s how it compared to the standard variant’s 38 kWh battery pack:

The claimed range of the MG Windsor EV, with the addition of the Pro variant, has gone up by a significant margin. The difference is noticeable in real-life situations too. While the 38 kWh battery pack had a real-world range of 260-280 km, one can drive around 100-120 km with the bigger battery pack. 

Another useful addition with the bigger battery pack is faster charging capabilities. While the 38 kWh battery pack has a maximum charging capacity of 45 kW that takes 45 minutes to juice up the cells from 20-80 percent, the bigger battery pack gets an enhanced 60 kW fast charging capabilities. This ensures that the battery is charged from 20-80 percent in just 50 minutes which is just 5 minutes more and justifiable for a larger battery pack.

A Little Less Boot Space

The lower-spec Excite and Exclusive trims of the MG Windsor EV boast a massive boot space of 609 litres. However, the inclusion of sliding and reclining seats in the Essence and the new Essence Pro variants have made the boot space marginally smaller by 30 litres. Thankfully, the larger battery pack hasn’t hindered boot space.

That said, it is enough for a weekend-long trip that includes a couple of large-sized luggage bags, a large-size rucksack and two regular-sized backpacks.

Similar Rear Seat Experience

The MG Windsor EV Pro’s rear seat experience, which is one of the best in the segment, is the same. Like the other variants, the Windsor EV Pro gets 135-degree reclining seats, allowing you to recline back and relax. It can also be slid ahead or behind as per convenience if you want to prioritize legroom or boot space. This gives an aircraft-like business class feeling with loads of space on offer. Along with this, the seats provide ample under-thigh support and  headroom, meaning people over 6 feet would be comfortable here.

While the 38 kWh battery pack variants get a black leatherette upholstery, the Essence Pro variant gets Ivory White themed seats, making the cabin feel much more open and airier than before.

Good To Have Feature Additions

The MG Windsor EV, from its very launch, has been a feature-rich offering with amenities including a 15.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, a panoramic glass roof and ventilated front seats. Its safety suite includes 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The new Pro variant has made the Windsor EV even better by including convenience features like a powered tailgate, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V). It also gets a level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite in its safety net.

In real-life, these additional features do not make a world of difference. However, the new amenities are good to have but are not really something that will make you choose the Pro variant over the other variants.

Justifiable Price Tag

Compared to the standard variants, the MG Windsor EV’s new Essence Pro variant is Rs 1.20 lakh more with the battery rental plan and Rs 2.10 lakh more. The premium is mainly justified by the larger battery pack, which allows for more usable range on a daily basis. The additional features the Windsor EV boasts are an added bonus.
