But there are still some models that fulfil a special role, either in affordability or features or performance, that could be driven home in time for Diwali.

Given the dominant preference for SUVs in the Indian market, we've compiled a list of 5 SUVs with waiting periods of up to 2 weeks for at least 10 major cities. 

Renault Kiger

Price Range: Rs 6.50 lakh to Rs 11.23 lakh

Available in 2 weeks or less in: Pune, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Gurugram, Lucknow, Thane, Surat, Patna, Noida

• The Renault Kiger subcompact SUV is the most affordable offering in the list.

• The Renault SUV is readily available for delivery in cities such as Pune, Patna, and Noida. 

• However, if you reside in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, and Faridabad, the waiting time for the Kiger extends to around a month.

• The Kiger comes with 2 petrol engine options only: a 1-litre naturally aspirated unit(72PS/96Nm) and a 1-litre turbocharged unit (100PS/160Nm). Both are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, though the former gets an optional 5-speed AMT while the latter can also be had with a CVT.

• Renault’s subcompact SUV is equipped with features such as 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic AC, wireless phone charger, cruise control, and a PM2.5 air filter. Safety is taken care of by up to 4 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist, rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Volkswagen Taigun

Price Range: Rs 11.62 lakh to Rs 19.76 lakh

Available in 2 weeks or less in: Pune, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Thane, Surat, Chandigarh, Patna, Indore, and Noida.

• The SUV has no waiting period in cities like Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Thane, Indore, and Noida. 

• However, in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Ghaziabad, and Coimbatore, customers may still need to wait for up to a month to get their SUV delivered.

• Volkswagen offers the Taigun with 2 turbo-petrol engine options only: a 1-litre engine (115PS/178Nm) paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a 1.5-litre engine (150PS/250Nm) which comes mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT).

• The Volkswagen Taigun’s feature list includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated and powered front seats, automatic AC, and a single pane sunroof. Its safety kit includes up to 6 airbags, ESC, TPMS, a rear-view camera and seatbelt reminder for all passengers.

Skoda Kushaq

Price Range: Rs 10.89 to Rs 20.01 lakh

Available in 2 weeks or less in: New Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Thane, Surat, Ghaziabad, Patna, and Faridabad.

• The Skoda Kushaq also has a waiting period of 2 weeks minimum for buyers in Mumbai and Pune, and in most other cities it can extend to a month. However, in Indore and Noida, the waiting period for the Kushaq exceeds 1 month. 

• The automaker has also reduced the base prices of the Kushaq and Slavia, which are detailed here. 

• The Kushaq uses the same engine options as the Taigun which includes a 1-litre turbo petrol engine (115PS/178Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (150PS/250Nm). Both units are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, while the former comes with an optional 6-speed automatic transmission, and the latter can be had with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) as well.

• Features on board the Kushaq include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated and powered front seats, and a single-pane sunroof. On the safety front, it gets up to 6 airbags, ESC, TPMS, and a rear parking camera.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Price: Rs 35.17 lakh

Available in 2 weeks or less in: Pune, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Thane, Surat, Chandigarh, Patna, Indore, and Noida.

• The Volkswagen Tiguan is the 5-seater flagship SUV offering from the German carmaker in India, which is readily available in cities such as Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Thane, Indore, and Noida. 

• That said, those residing in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Ghaziabad will have to wait up to a month to get their hands on the Tiguan.

• It is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine which churns out 190PS and 320Nm. The power is delivered to all 4 wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT).

• Volkswagen’s flagship SUV is equipped with amenities like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver’s display, 3-zone climate control, 30-colour ambient lighting and powered driver’s seat. Its safety features include 6 airbags, ESC, TPMS, park assist, and a rear parking camera.

Skoda Kodiaq

Price Range: Rs 38.50 lakh to Rs 41.95 lakh

Available in 2 weeks or less in: New Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Thane, Surat, Ghaziabad, Patna, and Faridabad.

• The Skoda Kodiaq is the most premium and the only 7-seater SUV on the list, with an average waiting period of up to 2 weeks in most cities. 

• Similar to the Kushaq, the Kodiaq is readily available in markets like New Delhi and Gurgaon. 

• The Kodiaq uses a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (190PS/320Nm) mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). This Skoda SUV also sports all-wheel-drive.

• Skoda has equipped the Kodiaq with features such as 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, 10.2-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated and heated front seats with massage function, a panoramic sunroof, 3-zone climate control, and 10-colour ambient lighting. The safety is ensured by 9 airbags, ESC, a 360-degree camera, and TPMS.
