Maruti is planning to launch a special edition of its hatchback, the Swift. Though, the carmaker has remained tight lipped about the launch, it has started to promote the special edition on social media. Enthusiasts are in for a treat for they can use the hashtag #namethenextswift to name the special edition and win exciting prizes.

Maruti has addressed the to-be-launched edition as stylish, edgy and sporty. The Swift, in fact, is known to be sporty since its inception. With images yet to be released, we expect the carmaker to make its hatchback cooler with some cosmetic updates and addition of new features. Mechanical options are likely to remain unaltered as the 2017 Swift is already in testing phase and Maruti would rather save such updates for the next-gen version.
It is evident that the hatchback space has been congested for some time now. Carmakers such as Tata and Mahindra have also introduced their products in this attractive segment, given its mass appeal. At such a time, the Swift is facing unprecedented competition.

Not to say Maruti is well receptive to the growing competition. The automaker is reportedly planning to launch the automatic transmission in diesel variants of its hatch by the end of this year. The Swift Dzire already has one and given that the hatchback shares the engine and platform with its sedan sibling, it should not take much research and development to introduce the same in the Swift. With all being done with the car, one thing is sure - Maruti is not letting its offering leave the market anytime soon.
