The next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLE which debuted at the 2018 Paris Motor Show is about to be launched before the 2020 Auto Expo in India. The upcoming SUV was spied testing in India a month ago.
Now, Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it has started accepting bookings for the upcoming GLE SUV. Going by the spy shots, the fourth-gen GLE is expected to be powered by BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines. The test mule was seen carrying the Real Driving Emission (RDE) analyser that is used to test emission levels.
Since the GLE is based on a new platform, its wheelbase has increased by 80mm and now measures 2,995mm. The test mule was spotted sporting 19-inch optional alloy wheels. While the current generation is offered in four variants in India, the 2020 GLE is offered in a total of five variants internationally (three diesel and two petrol engines): GLE 300 d, GLE 350 d, GLE 400 d, GLE 350 and GLE 450.

Under the hood, the new 2020 GLE comes with four engine options. The 300 d diesel is powered by a 2.0-litre unit (245PS/500Nm), while the 400 d diesel gets a 3.0-litre engine which is good for 330PS of max power and 700Nm of peak torque. The GLE 350 variant comes with a 2.0-litre petrol powertrain that makes 255PS while the GLE 450 is offered with a 3.0-litre V6 which puts out 367PS. The German carmaker is offering all the engines with a 9-speed automatic transmission option.
The new GLE will be offered with two 12.3-inch touchscreen systems from the new A-Class. Additionally, it may feature a large touchpad on the centre console along with multi-functional touch buttons on the steering wheel.
Mercedes-Benz is likely to price it between Rs 70 lakh and Rs 1.05 crore (ex-showroom India). It could compete against the likes of the BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery, Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90.
