The technology will assist in delivering better fuel efficiency and this will be possible with the help of new coasting function implemented inside the engines. Coasting is one such mechanism which disengages transmission from engine while on overrun which is already seen in various VW Group models coming with dual-clutch automatic gearboxes. Also, the ability to vary engine's compression ratios persisting immediate demands should lead to enhance the overall efficiency.

In 2012, Audi demonstrated electrically assisted forced-induction technology that works with the help of an electrically driven turbo which spuns at high speed and forces the air into the engine at low speeds- something not expected out of usual turbo ones until the engine is running at really high speeds.
