The 'L' Car Volvo S60L Planned for China; Might Hit India too

The Chinese dragon theme and the plethora of Sports Utility Vehicles were not the only highlights of the Beijing Auto Show 2012; another subject that garnered a lot of attention was the growing line-up of lengthened cars which are known as the ‘L’ cars. The Chinese car market is starting to flood with lengthened cars, and the word is the Swedish auto giant Volvo is going to manufacture the S60L in Chengdu by the end of current year. Volvo China is also planning on an annual production of around 200,000 units and in addition to the Volvo S60L the XC60 is expected to go into production as well. These two cars are expected to cater to the huge demand of lengthened cars and SUVs in the car market of China. China imports S60 from Holland which adds the expensive tag to this car since the prices start from 280,000RMB for the 1.6T version and from 300,000RMB for the 2.0T version. The Volvo S60L is also speculated to make an entry in the booming car marker of India since the elongated wheel-base makes a lot of sense for the Indians.

    Volvo s60L

At present the L cars available in the Chinese car market include the Citoren Elysee that was granted extra 10 cm in its B-pillar in order to increase the leg room for the rear seats. Audi too has a success story to narrate with the A6L and A4L which largely helped in driving in sales volumes. BMW also followed the footsteps of Audi and unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show the BMW 328Li. Volvo S80L is already traversing the Chinese roads which is produced under the tie-up of Chang’an and Volvo but the car was unable to leave a mark on the market like the Audi A6L, BML 5L and Mercedes Benz E-Class L did.
