India’s largest manufacturer retails cars from two different outlets – its regular Maruti Suzuki showrooms, and the ‘premium’ Nexa outlets. Now, the cars retailing from these two showrooms have subtle differences and it was highlighted by the recently launched Vitara Brezza, which is being sold through its regular dealerships. Maruti’s past few launches (the S-Cross and Baleno) were from Nexa.

A substantial difference is noted in terms of safety features, as vehicles sold from Nexa outlets come standard with dual front airbags, along with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System). On the flip side, cars retailed from existing showrooms offer optional dual front airbags, while a few also get ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution). Last year, the manufacturer launched the S-Cross and Baleno from Nexa, and also offered optional safety features in its existing products – in the Alto 800 and the K10 (driver airbag) – that were being sold through its regular dealerships. Similarly, the Vitara Brezza received  optional dual front airbags along with ABS and EBD, as it will be sold through regular dealerships.

Another noticeable difference is in the variant nomenclature. Nexa cars acquire variant names such as Sigma, Delta, Alpha and Zeta, while the rest receive regular tags such as LX/Di, VX/Di and ZX/Di, depending on whether they are petrol or diesel variants. In terms of features, Vitara Brezza is the latest entrant from the regular dealerships and boasts of features similar to the ones offered to Nexa vehicles. So, the features remained largely unchanged between the two. On similar lines, the upcoming Ignis micro SUV, which will be retailed from Nexa, is expected to feature dual front airbags with ABS and EBD.
