The Tata Harrier EV was launched recently as a direct rival to the Mahindra XEV 9e, which arrived earlier and is currently available only with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup. While the Harrier EV offers buyers the added option of an all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration, those looking specifically for a RWD electric SUV in this segment are likely to consider both models. To help such buyers make a more informed choice, we compare the Harrier EV’s most premium RWD variant, the Empowered, with the similarly priced Pack Three Select trim of the Mahindra XEV 9e.

Comparing the RWD variants of both electric SUVs, the Tata Harrier EV Empowered RWD gets a larger 75 kWh battery pack, while the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Three Select comes with a smaller 59 kWh unit. Both use a single electric motor and have nearly identical power outputs. However, the Mahindra has a significant advantage in torque, producing 380 Nm compared to the Harrier EV’s 315 Nm. Despite the differences in output and battery size, both models offer a similar claimed range of around 540 km.
It is also worth noting that the Harrier EV’s lower variants are offered with a smaller 65 kWh battery pack, while the 75 kWh battery version is also available with an all-wheel-drive setup. In contrast, the XEV 9e does not offer an AWD option at all.

The Tata Harrier EV Empowered RWD and Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Three Select are evenly matched when it comes to their powertrain. Both get a single motor with similar power figures and offer a claimed range of around 540 km, making them equally capable for long-distance electric driving.
Where the two differ is in their design approach and the kind of features they prioritise. The Harrier EV sticks to a traditional SUV silhouette with a wider and taller body, giving it a strong road presence and a roomier cabin. It focuses more on convenience and comfort features such as a larger 14.5-inch touchscreen, boss mode, memory functions with welcome retract for the driver’s seat, ambient lighting, and a digital IRVM with dashcam functions. These additions make it feel more practical and user-friendly on a daily basis.
The XEV 9e Pack Three Select, on the other hand, has a sleeker SUV-coupe profile that looks more futuristic and is likely to grab more attention. Inside, it leans heavily towards tech-forward experiences with highlights like a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual wireless chargers, flush door handles, pet and camp modes, and an in-car camera. While it may not offer as many physical comfort features as the Harrier EV, it delivers a more premium and modern appeal.
