The Duster Turbo will be powered by the same 156PS 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine seen on the Nissan Kicks

  • Renault first showcased the Duster Turbo at Auto Expo 2020.

  • It gets red inserts on the front grille, fog lamp housing and Duster badging on the tailgate.

  • New feature additions include cabin pre-cool via remote functionality, bigger tyres and touchscreen.

  • At 156PS and 254Nm, it makes 50PS and 112Nm more than the standard Duster petrol.

  • The Duster Turbo will be the top-spec variant in the Duster’s lineup.

The Renault Duster Turbo made its first public appearance at this year’s edition of the Auto Expo. Renault is now set to launch the most powerful version of the Duster in August 2020. The model will feature slightly sportier aesthetics and a brand new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol. With the launch of the Turbo variant, a CVT auto will also be reintroduced in the Duster’s lineup.

In terms of changes, it looks almost the same as the standard Duster except for a few minor tweaks. It gets red colour inserts on the front grille, fog lamp housing as well as on the Duster badging on the tailgate and roof rails. It will also get redesigned 17-inch alloys, a size bigger than the standard model.

The Duster Turbo will come with new features such as cabin pre-cool via remote functionality, idle auto engine start-stop and a bigger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Apart from that, the more powerful version of the Duster will carry forward existing equipment list including projector headlamps with LED DRLs, four speakers and two tweeters, and cruise control. Safety features on offer are likely to include dual front airbags, reverse parking camera, and hill start assist.

The new engine is good for 156PS and 254Nm, that is 50PS and 112Nm more than the standard Duster petrol. It is even more powerful and torquier than the previously offered 1.5-litre diesel engine (110PS/245Nm). The Duster Turbo will come equipped with a 6-speed MT and a 7-step CVT. On the other hand, the regular Duster is offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine (106PS/142Nm) mated to a 5-speed MT. This is the same engine that was recently introduced  with the Nissan Kicks.

The Duster Turbo will rival Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks. It will also face competition from the VW Taigun and Skoda VISION IN once they enter the market in early 2021. The Duster 1.5-litre petrol is currently priced between Rs 8.49 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh. The Turbo is expected to be offered at a premium as a single, range-topping trim level.
