Premier Rio launched in three variants
Premier India has introduced country's first compact SUV, Premier Rio, in India. The Premier Rio has been launched in three variants viz., Premier Rio EX, Premier Rio DX and Premier Rio LX and the ex-showroom price of the SUV's in Pune are Rs 5.25 lakh, Rs 5.50 lakh and Rs 5.95 lakh. The mini-SUV comes loaded with 1489cc Turbo Diesel engine that belts out peak power of 65 bhp at 4000 rpm and with peak torque of 152 Nm at 2250 rpm. The mini-SUV is to compete with the likes of Scorpio M2Di, Maruti Suzuki Gypsy and Mahindra Bolero Invader. The Premier Rio is a compact Sports Utility Vehicle that is a classic blend of domestic and international tech and design. As it has the engine smaller than 1.5 litre, tax benefit will be there as a compact car. The power train of the SUV is Euro-III compliant and is in process to meet Euro-IV emission norms. For the development of the mini-SUV, Premier Rio has sign in with Chinese firm, Zoyte Autos. The CKD version of the car will be assembled at Premier's Chinchwad facility in Pune. At present, Sigma van and Road-star pick up is manufactured in the Chinchwad plant.

The base model is equipped with MP3 audio system, power windows, central locking and power steering while the higher end variant possesses alloy wheels and ABS. Premier’s chairman and Managing Director Maitreya Doshi told that the Premier Rio is a much more small SUV model. The SUV will be available at 20 dealership showroom across India and the deliveries will begin from December. There are a few new car launches in India that includes Volkswagen Polo and Chevrolet Beat.
