Maruti A-Star facelift coming to Auto Expo?
A new car from Suzuki stable is spotted with an Alto badge on it. Now, the speculations are rife that this probably could be the car that Maruti India might launch as a new Maruti A-Star at the 2012 Auto Expo. To make the long story short, Maruti A-star in India sells in the abroad as Maruti Alto. This is because Maruto Alto was phased out in the international markets sometime back giving its name to Maruti A-Star instead. Coming back to the spotted car, this car looks like a Suzuki Alto because of the Japanese stickers near the rear windshield. Now, it is the A-star that sells as Maruti Alto in Japan and other markets.

Which means that Maruti Suzuki India might introduce the spotted car as new Maruti A-star, as Indian car market has Maruti Alto and Maruti A-star as two different entities. However, if the spotted Suzuki Alto is really the new Maruti A-Star as we believe, then there is a substantial change from the existing model. The interior space had always been a sore point in the Maruti A-Star which seems to have improved in the new car. Overall, the size of the spied car has outgrown from the current model. The exteriors seem to be more refined than the outgoing A-star with the capacity to accommodate an Indian family more comfortably. Weighing the options in any way, the spotted Alto is more likely to be a new Maruti A-Star which makes more sense as Martui A-star sales of late haven’t been too good. On the other hand, Maruti Alto continues to beat every other competitor in the segment. So, probably after 2012 Auto Expo is when our speculations will be put to rest.
