Almost a month into the launch of the BR-V, Honda has reported that the car has managed to gather 9,000 bookings. As a result, the waiting period has extended up to two months. This is a fairly moderate response for an SUV, especially considering the popularity of the segment in which it was launched. Speaking of the segment, the BR-V’s arch rival, the Hyundai Creta attained an astonishing figure of 32,000 bookings within 22 days of its launch. Sadly enough, the booking numbers of the BR-V sit beneath that of the Mobilio’s.

It appears as if Honda was unsuccessful in impressing the Indian audience with its latest SUV. In our BR-V first drive review, we had pointed out that the car lacks features and the excitement which would make it a worthy buy, and this could very well be the reason for the shallow response. Also, we pitched the BR-V against the Creta in a head-to-head comparison and it was evident that the Creta has more to offer. For starters, the BR-V is the longest car in the segment and still lacks rear parking sensors and camera, which will lead to difficulties while parking in compact spaces. Also, the car comes with an old-school music system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux paring and misses out on a modern touchscreen.

Barring a few disappointments, the BR-V is a decent car. It is the most spacious car of the lot, not to mention the two added seats in the form of a third row. It comes with the well tuned engines from the Honda City --  the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel. The petrol has been complimented on its smoothness and generates 119PS power with 145Nm of torque. The fuel economy is rated at 15.4kmpl for the six-speed manual and 16kmpl for the CVT transmission. The diesel unit produces 100PS power with 200Nm torque. The fuel efficiency of the diesel unit is rated at 21.4kmpl for the 6-speed manual transmission.

We hope Honda soon introduces the missing aspects in the BR-V so it becomes a worthy competition to the Creta. This will give the buyers more options in the segment to choose from.
