Honda has launched 2013 Honda CR-V in South Africa recently, and the South African model is closer to the Indian model as it gets European specs instead of American. We are expecting this car in India by first quarter of 2013. 2013 Honda CR-V will be sold with three engine options in South Africa- two petrol and one diesel. One of these petrol mills is the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated, in-line four engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and powers the front wheels of the car, this engine belts out the maximum power output of 153bhp with a peak torque of 192Nm. The other engine is the more powerful 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, which is again a naturally aspirated engine, but it powers all four wheels of the car, and is capable to deliver the peak power of 187bhp and 220Nm of peak torque.

The 2013 Honda CR-V diesel car version comes equipped with the 2.2-litre, four cylinder turbo diesel engine, which cranks out a peak power output of 148bhp with peak torque of 350 Nm and features an all wheels drive system. All the three engines come mated to 6-speed manual transmission as standard, the 2.4-litre petrol engine and the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engined variants of the CR-V are also available with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Japanese car maker Honda has already announced that the India-bound CR-V will only be available in petrol version and it is not going to get diesel at first. So, most probably the 2013 Honda CR-V in India will come with the two petrol engines; 2.4-litre i-VTEC and 2.0-litre petrol engine, same as the South African CR-V. The cut price model will feature the 2.0-litre engine mated to 6-speed manual transmission and will power the front wheels only, the other version will feature the more powerful 2.4-litre engine and will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission, will feature 4WD as well.

Honda is currently selling the existing Honda CR-V in India, which is coming as CBU (Completely Built Unit) and that's why, Honda has never received figures that they want. We are not sure that whether they bring new Honda CR-V via CKD route or not, but we are sure if they won't do the same, Its price would reach close to Rs 25-28 lakh, so no matter how good the car is, it would live the same fate as its predecessors.
