Scorpio 2014-2022 S10 4WD Review
India's largest utility vehicle maker, Mahindra and Mahindra has finally launched the refurbished version of its popular SUV, Scorpio in the market. This time, the manufacturer has opted for a new nomenclature for all the variants in its series. Among those, Mahindra Scorpio S10 4WD is the top end trim, which is equipped with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. This motor is now mated with an indigenously built five speed manual transmission gearbox that makes shifting of gears smoother. On the other hand, it is also blessed with a new lightweight ladder frame chassis that is built with hydroforming methods. This will help in improving its fuel efficiency. There are several changes made to its exteriors, especially to the radiator grille and headlight cluster. This variant is now bestowed with high intensity projector headlamps along with LED tail lamps, which gives it a sophisticated look. Furthermore, it also gets a newly designed alloy wheels that emphasizes its sporty look. Its interiors too have been revised, as it gets an all new dashboard with slightly tweaked center fascia. This facelift version is also integrated with a touchscreen infotainment system that has controls for audio, Bluetooth and navigation system.
Exteriors:
This SUV has undergone a major cosmetic overhaul in terms of its external appearance. Its front bumper gets slightly bigger and is designed with a large air dam featuring a perforated mesh. It is also fitted with a pair of fog lamps along with a nudge guard that gives it an intimidating look. Furthermore, this SUV gets a redesigned radiator grille, which has chrome bars and is embedded with company's logo. Its modified headlight cluster looks sleeker yet wider and is equipped with projector headlamps and turn indicators. The bonnet along with the scoop too gets a slight modification that compliments the company's insignia. The side profile remains mostly identical to its earlier version but its wheel arches have been slightly tweaked. They are fitted with a set of trendy 17-inch alloy wheels, which are covered with radial tubeless tyres. The external wing mirrors get a slight update and is painted with body color. The sides also have side steps, which makes it convenient to gain access to the cabin. Apart from these, this trim also has trendy features like body colored door handles and black roof rails. The rear profile has a refreshing new look owing to its repositioned taillight cluster, which is now powered by LED brake lights and turn indicators. Apart from this, its remaining aspects like the car maker has also revamped the tailgate and windscreen.
Interiors:
The cabin of this Mahindra Scorpio S10 4WD trim gets a dual tone color scheme, which is further accentuated by metallic inserts. Its dashboard gets a brand new design with slightly modified center fascia and rectangular air vents. It is equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system along with a fully automatic climate control system and a large glove box. This trim also gets a four spoke leather wrapped steering wheel that has silver inserts and is mounted with multifunctional switches. Furthermore, it is integrated with a stylish instrument cluster featuring a digital multi information screen that displays vehicle's speed , fuel level, tachometer, trip meter and clock. The main highlight of the interiors is its excellent seating arrangement that can host at least seven passengers. Both the first and second row has individual seats with center armrest, while the third row has foldable bench seat. Apart from these, this trim is equipped with several utility features like dual front sun visors, accessory power sockets, drink holders, storage pockets and cabin lamps.
Engine and Performance:
This refurbished trim is powered by the same 2.2-litre, mHawk diesel engine that has common rail injection technology. It is based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration with 4-cylinders and 16-valves that displaces 2179cc. It also has a turbocharger that can allows the motor to pump out a maximum power of 120bhp at 4000rpm in combination with a commanding torque output of 280Nm. It is now mated with a newly developed 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that sends the torque output to the all four wheels. This SUV can now return a mileage in the range of 15 to 17 kmpl, which is rather impressive.
Braking and Handling:
Its front wheels are equipped with a set of conventional disc brakes, while the rear ones are paired with high performance drum brakes. The car maker has incorporated an advanced anti lock braking system, which augment the braking mechanism. Its front axle is fitted with independent double wishbone system while the rear axle is coupled with multi-link system including anti roll bars. In addition to this, both the axles are loaded with coil springs, which enhances this mechanism. The manufacturer has also integrated a highly responsive power assisted steering system that supports a minimum turning radius of just 5.4 meters.
Comfort Features:
This Mahindra Scorpio S10 4WD is the top end variant that is packed with several advanced features. This trim is now incorporated with a fully automatic AC unit including rear roof mounted air vents, which keeps the entire cabin pleasant. This variant is also equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system that has CD player, radio tuner, USB port and AUX-In socket. In addition to these, it also supports Bluetooth connectivity for call function and audio streaming. Apart form these, it is integrated with navigation system that helps to choose a right direction. The list of other comfort features include power steering with tilt adjustment, electrically adjustable outside mirrors, cruise control system, cup holders and driver's seat height adjuster.
Safety Features:
This refurbished version is built with a lightweight steel material featuring impact protection beams and crumple zones. This top end trim is now bestowed with features like airbags for front passengers and rear parking sensors including a camera. It also has an advanced engine immobilizer system with encrypted key recognition system, which rejects any duplicate key and safeguards the vehicle. The list of other safety features include tubeless radial tyres, 3-point seat belts with pre-tensioner including load limiter, day and night inside rear view mirror, auto door lock while driving, speed alert, anti theft warning and dual horn.
