WB Government enters Tata Nano Singur factory, takes inventories
The Tata Nano car factory at Singur has become a bone of contention for the West Bengal government and Tata Motors. In a recent follow up of events, the Mamata government has reportedly taken over the Tata Nano factory at Singur on Thursday. Notably, after Tata moved court, the issue is pending in the Kolkatta High Court. As per recent reports, the Hooghly administration almost took control of the factory and started taking an inventory of the articles inside Tata’s Singur factory on Thursday. Meanwhile in a press meet, WB Industries minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters that the process of taking the land from Tatas is underway and it would take some more time. He also reportedly told that he cannot comment on the issue as the matter is sub judice (pending in the court).

It is worth mentioning that Tata Motors India has challenged the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011 in the court. Even then it is reported that the law department of West Bengal is working on it and framing rules. In the recent move, the district administration of Singur along with some 600 policemen took control of the factory on Thursday morning and started taking inventory of the things inside the Tata Nano factory. A report also suggests that the officials and the policemen will live inside the factory where parts and partially built up Tata Nano cars are still there.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors India’s advocate has expressed concern over probable loot and pilferage in the wake of current crisis and upon the plea, the court had asked the officials to maintain law and order in and around the factory. It is in the compliance of the court’s order that police has been deployed at the Singur plant, said sources. Meanwhile, the people living in and around the Tata factory including those who have willingly given their land to Tata are all happy to find that things have started moving in a way that could bring their lands back.
