Tata Nano was a result of a doodle by Ratan Tata
Have you ever thought that how was Nano, world’ cheapest car with the price tag of Rs 1 lakh, was born? According to ,Ratan Tata, the head of the Tata Group of companies, the Nano was the result of some idle doodling at lifeless board meetings. He further added that many of us are victims of the surrounding atmosphere in which we are and gradually we lose sight of the fact that we have got a greater responsibility of serving the communities we are living in.
This statement was of Ratan Tata bout Nano was found in a book titled Small Wonder: The Making of Nano. Christabelle Noronha has co-authored this book with Philip Chacko and Sujata Agarwal. Noronha says that Nano has been and remains necessarily a product of Ratan Tata's imagination. She also said that they had a strong feeling that the story of required to be chronicled and the ordinary readers will be keen to understand and know that story.
Noronha forther commented that initially, they had thought of publishing the book for circulation within the Tata company. But later on a good amount of interest was shown by the publishing companies for taking the book to a bigger audience. It was then when they decided to go public, said Noronha. The team of the writers discussed various things with over hundred people from Tata Motors. These people included engineers, dealers, Nano owners and others. The writers took one complete year to write this book. The writer said that to marry quality with affordability was one of the greatest plus points of Nano. The model transformed the rules of motoring business in many ways, added Noronha.
During the research and interviews for writing a book on Tata Nano, it was found that the Nano project has most certainly been the highlight of the careers of the people who were involved in the making of this model. The early doodle of Ratan Tata was to redesign a model around a scooter so that those using it would be able to travel safer. Later on Ratan Tata got in touch with an industry association. He suggested for a joint effort with Tata Motors for fashioning an Asian car. Gradually the small wonder car Tata Nano was born .
