The Tata Motors, Singur story has reversed. Two years after a hue and cry in Singur due to political unrest, the Indian car brand shifted its Tata Nano manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat.

As per the auto industry reports, Singur residents and its people have welcomed Tata Motors to set up a new plant and have assured full cooperation and have asked the auto giants to meet the officials. It is also being learnt from the report that Tata Motors is planning to set up the manufacturing unit and for that it will speak to the representatives there.

In 2009, the natives in Singur had protested that the Indian auto brand should not set up the plant as the people were looking for fetching higher land prises from the company. The report also says that A S Puri, the Vice President (Govt affair) in Tata Motors, on 9th December said that he will talk to the president when he visits Kolkatta. Mr Puri responded in letter to Singur Shilpa Vikash Unnayan Committee, Uddayan Das, praising him of the residents friendly attitude for Tata. It was also being reported that Mr. Das wrote to Tata Motors on 11th November, stating that the situation has under went a positive change. It was said that if looking at the situation in Singur, West Bengal industrial activity is not favourable. Mr Das reported that till December, 2009 it was true but now the situation is different and positive.

It was also noted that, as per Das the situation is now positive and people are ready for cooperation for the industrial activity. The company completed 85 per cent of the work in the district and switching over again was a tough decision for the Tata Nano makers.

The report also stated that Tata Motors has shown positive signs of re-establishing, to the members of the committee of those who lost their lands formed by CPI (M), after the Indian auto makers shifted the plant a year ago. It is being learned that the residents wish that Tata Motors should make use of the acquired land in a new car project or may be something else. I am happy to read that Tata Motors is considering modifying MANZA. May I suggest the following: a) Change the tail lights to look somethig like the one on ALTIS/Mercedes. b) Rear bumper must be properly shaped and must cover the full portion like in other imported cars. c) Provide strong wheel rims. this is a weak area in Tata vehicles. Rims get damaged. Provide alloy rims at reasonable rates. d) For a big saloon more power is required. Increase the HP. In Indigo 3rd gear is weak especially in hill areas. e)Provide good coating of glossy paint. Regards Rakesh Sant
