Skoda India’s new entrant in the hatchback segment, Skoda Citigo will debut in India in 2012. Meanwhile, Skoda India has released the official video of the small car as a part of marketing strategy to promote the sales. The Skoda Citigo is basically the rebranding of Volkswagen Up! with Skoda trademark. Speculations are rife that the hatchback could be introduced in the three door variant and the five door variant as well. The Skoda Citigo 3-door hatch has a limited space in the rear which makes it unsuitable for the Indian family car demands.

The Skoda India will have the advantage to place the Skoda Citigo price below Volkswagen Up! due to the lower production costs, to be the cheapest car from Skoda’s fleet of cars. Built on the same platform as Volkswagen Up!, the Skoda Citigo will share the same dimensions on the exteriors. The Skoda Citigo frontal look will have the undeniable distinction from VW Up with the Skoda badge on the grille. The interiors are well designed with classy looks despite the low price of the car. The dashboard and the steering wheel appears to be straight out of the Volkswagen Up! The Skoda Citigo will have a 1.0 L three-cylinder petrol engine to churn out a peak power of 59 Bhp and peak torque of 75 Nm. The car is said to offer a phenomenal mileage of 26 kmpl and is capable of attaining a top speed of 170 kmph.
The Czech auto major will have this small car introduced in their home country by the end of this year before launching it in the other parts of the world including India. On the other hand, Volkswagen India is also gearing up to launch Volkswagen Up around the same time, ideally before the Citigo launch, while Volkswagen’s Spanish subsidiary Seat is also looking forward to launch its small car Mii based on Volkswagen Up! The Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii will soon be launched in the Spain and the Eastern European countries.
