This ultra-luxury saloon combines the dynamic driver characteristics that have underpinned the Ghost success story with segment leading rear-cabin space. The spacious interior of Ghost Extended Wheelbase will offer 170mm more room for rear-seat occupants over the already ample interior space enjoyed by passengers in Ghost. A panoramic sunroof as standard enhances the interior ambience allowing natural light to pour in. Lambs-wool mats, individual rear seats, and rear theater configuration, also as standard, combine to create a luxurious space to travel in unbridled comfort.

The award-winning, four-seater Ghost has seen exceptional demand since its India launch in 2010. Designed as a vision of simplicity, it is a Rolls-Royce that drives and rides in peerless fashion. Ghost Extended Wheelbase takes this principle further, designed as a car to drive or in which to be chauffeured. It will be built to order and is available in only limited numbers for 2011 until full production begins in 2012. Paul Harris, Asia Pacific Regional Director said: “It is a pleasure to introduce Ghost Extended Wheelbase to India. In developing the car we very much had the needs of the Indian customer in mind. Also, as we celebrate 100 years of the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy, cues from our glorious history in India can be seen in much of what we do today. Akin to the unique and spectacular Maharajah cars of the past, current Rolls-Royce customers are commissioning our Bespoke department to create contemporary motor cars as unique as their own fingerprints. This demand has led us to add more craftspeople to our Bespoke team and to extend the manufacturing plant to accommodate this growth."

He added: "Recent demand in India has contributed to strong performance in the Asia Pacific Region as a whole. Our commitment to developing the brand in this highly important territory is underpinned by the imminent opening of a brand new showroom in New Delhi." Powered by the acclaimed Rolls-Royce Ghost 6.6 litre twin turbo charged V12 engine which produces 563 hp and 780Nm of torque at only 1,500 rpm, Ghost Extended Wheelbase accelerates from 0-100km/h in just five seconds. An intelligent, four-corner air suspension maintains a perfect balance of legendary ‘magic carpet’ ride comfort married to effortless handling.

Cutting edge technology is combined with Rolls-Royce craftsmanship to create an uncompromised driving experience. A complex computer system reads multiple inputs from sensors around the car whilst the dampers alone make individual load calculations every 2.5 milliseconds ensuring perfect poise, balance and handling. Electronic aids mean Ghost Extended Wheelbase is not fazed by an uneven surface. Anti-roll stabilisation, dynamic brake control and dynamic traction and cornering brake control work together under dual Integrated Chassis Management. Significantly enhanced legroom, with knee-room more than doubling from 160mm to 330mm compared with Ghost and panoramic sunroof combine to create a rear space that exudes super-luxury and serenity.

After touching a button to close the rear doors, passengers will enter a world of sumptuous leather and deep pile carpets. A ‘theatre configuration’ provides a cinematic experience with 9.2 inch LCD screens set on the backs of the front-seats displaying the car’s functions and can be angled to suit the viewer. They are managed via a central rotary controller mounted on the armrest which also allows passengers to access TV channels, CDs and radio or to browse the navigation menu. The accompanying audio system delivers 600 Watts through a 10-channel amplifier and 16 speakers. USB and auxiliary inputs allow external audio devices to be integrated.

The moment a passenger enters the cabin through the car’s extended coach doors surprise will be the overwhelming reaction. The feeling of space significantly belies the 170mm increase making experience the key to understanding the appeal of Ghost Extended Wheelbase. Each Rolls-Royce passes through up to 60 pairs of hands before leaving the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, England. These belong to the skilled craftspeople and technicians who spend 20 days and undertake 2,000 individual operations to create Ghost Extended Wheelbase. A meticulous, seven day painting and polishing process ensures perfection. The first of five stages starts with a phosphate electro-coat to protect against corrosion. This is followed by a layer of primer, colour coat and two layers of clear lacquer. The body is sanded between each layer and hand-polished for five hours after the application of the final coat. 12 exterior colours are available, each of which can be contrasted by an optional Silver Satin bonnet.

Only the finest materials are selected for the interior. A Ghost Extended Wheelbase wood-set has at least 3m² of veneer, consisting of 18 wood parts and takes 16 days to complete. Each individual piece consists of 11 layers of veneer, one layer of foil and one of aluminium to provide strength. Their natural beauty is brought to life by the skill of those working in the Wood Shop, providing high quality wood veneers in four different finishes ranging from contemporary straight grain to classic burr finishes. A veneer option includes the famed Malabar wood from India. The veneers are milled and sanded by hand before being coated with five layers of lacquer for protection – and to give the trademark mirror-like sheen.
