The 2016 718 Boxster is powered by a new flat-four turbocharged boxer motor

Porsche has revealed new generation Boxster and its S variant, which is now christened as 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S. The German sports carmaker announced in December last year that both the Boxster and Cayman will get the 718 monikers and will feature equally powerful flat-four cylinder turbo boxer engines. Porsche derived the name '718' from their iconic flat-four cylinder (boxer) engine powered car of 1957, which had won numerous races for it. The company further added that the numerals also sits neatly besides the established sports car icons with numbered identities – 718 Boxster, 911 Carrera, 918 Spyder, 919 Hybrid. The new Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S are available for to order in the UK. Prices start from £41,739.00 (approximately Rs. 40 Lacs). The first batch of  deliveries will begin starting this summer.

What is highlighted in the fresh 2016 718 Boxster, are the new four-cylinder motors! The 718 Boxster is powered by a new 2.0-liter flat-four-cylinder turbo motor. The engine chucks out 300 hp with a peak torque of 380 Nm in-between 1,900  - 4,500 rpm. The 718 Boxster S is powered a 2.5-liter same flat-four motor producing 350 hp and a substantial 420 Nm of max torque across a speed range from 1,900 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The vehicle features a considerable power bump over the previous Boxster models, while fuel efficiency has gone up by nearly 13 percent. Coming to the performance figures, the 718 Boxster with optional PDK double-clutch automatic transmission and the Sport Chrono Package sprints from 0 – 100 kmph in 4.7 seconds. The equivalent 718 Boxster S accomplishes this in 4.2 seconds. The top speed of the 718 Boxster is 275 km/h (170 mph), and the 718 Boxster S has a top speed of 285 km/h (177 mph).

Porsche has also given subtle aesthetic upgrades to the new gen Boxster, inside-out, while retaining the essence of the previous Boxsters. The front bumper now features larger air dams and it also comes with optional LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights. The rear profile is relatively more re-designed, the new four-point taillights are flanked by a distinguished accent strip integrated with a ‘Porsche’ badge. The interiors feature elusive changes over the previous model and now come with Porsche Communication Management infotainment system as standard.
