Tata Nano, which was supposed to be launched in Bangladesh on Saturday, could not be showcased then, as the distributor said that the price tag of Tata Nano in their country was too much. Nano’s launch, about to take place at a fair in Bangladesh, was delayed at the last moment by Nitol Motors, the only distributor of Tata Motors in the country. He mentioned that after paying 132 percent tax on each car, the price of Nano went as high as 5,99,000 taka ($2,870) in Bangladesh.

It is quiet evident that the Tata Nano price in India is 1,27,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base variant making this hatchback-the cheapest car in India till date. This suggests that the price is almost 4 times in Bangladesh for the same car. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, the Director of Nitol Motors said that a lot of people came to them for booking Nano at the fair and a good 23 people even confirmed their interest. But the distributors deferred launch of Nano at the last moment as they were seeking a re-look at the price, which some say is too high.
