Maruti Suzuki Rally Championship To Debut In Arunachal Pradesh

Covering nearly 700km, the event will be held from December 14-17, 2016

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, is gearing up for the grand debut of its Super League TSD Rally Championship in Arunachal Pradesh. Slated to become the first-ever Maruti Suzuki rally to begin from the north-east of India, the entire event will be a part of the Orange Festival of Adventure and Music. The rally championship will be held over four days from December-14-17, 2016, and Maruti Suzuki claims that the rally will cover approximately 700kms, passing through dense forests, steep hills and snow-capped peaks, crossing Itanagar, Pasighat and Dambuk.

The championship is a combination of six different rallies, namely Deccan Rally, Mughal Rally, Backwaters Rally, Uttarakhand Rally, Rally of Gujarat and Rally of Arunachal. During the north-eastern rally stage, participants will pass through lush river gorges and rough mountain capes, located in the ‘Land of Dawn-lit Mountains’.

Sharing his thoughts about the upcoming Rally of Arunachal, Vinay Pant, assistant vice-president, marketing, Maruti Suzuki, said, “This is the first time we are taking the thrill of Maruti Suzuki motorsports to Arunachal Pradesh and elated that the rally championship is coinciding with the Orange Festival of Adventure and Music. We have received a very encouraging response to all our rounds of the National Super League TSD Rally Championship. As more and more people come forward to pursue their passion for rallying, it helps us touch more lives and reach out to a larger span of motor enthusiasts every year.”

The rally isn’t limited to only Maruti Suzuki products. Four-wheelers of any make can participate, and Maruti Suzuki claims there is no need for any customisation. The event follows a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format which tests the skills of the driver and the navigator, and also retains the essence of this competitive motorsport.
