Maruti Ertiga clocks in 400 bookings on the very first day in Maharashtra

Recently Maruti Suzuki has launched its first compact Multi-purpose vehicle Maruti Ertiga in India bearing a compelling price tag that ranges between Rs. 5.89 lakh and Rs. 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company’s commercial business head for western region, Mr. S N Burman, informed that Maruti Ertiga had already received around 400 bookings from the Maharashtra state only even before its launch on 12th April. It seems, this new car will emerge as one of the most applauded MPV of recent times. According to S Nakanishi, Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director, Maruti Ertiga is specifically designed for the urban customers who prefer vehicles with more space and flexibility than a sedan without being bulky on muscle and price like other utility vehicles.

The price strategy Maruti has followed with Ertiga is very aggressive and interesting; the price difference of Rs. 1.4 lakh between the base variants of petrol and diesel is considerably high. One of the possible reasons for this yawning gap could be an attempt to push the sales of petrol cars which are facing a dearth in demand owing to the ever-increasing petrol prices. For every 10 Maruti Swift hatchbacks sold in the country, 8 are diesel models whereas 2 are petrol models; this story is also true in case of other car makers present in the country.
